In the Urabá region of Antioquia, deep in the jungle and accessible via the mouth of the almost untouched Surikí River, lies the nature reserve founded by the 21 Jiménez siblings as an act of reconciliation with society after their father's murder. It was also an act of kinship with the jaguars that fed on the cattle of their recently relocated herd when transitional justice returned the land that had been stolen from them by illegal armed groups.

The Surikí Nature Reserve is proof that Colombia can make a remarkable comeback from armed conflict. It comprises 400 hectares within a larger area of over 8,000 hectares protected by Afro-Colombian community councils. A visit includes jaguar monitoring with camera traps, observation of various primate species (spider monkeys, cotton-top tamarins, and night monkeys), sloths, hundreds of tropical birds from the more than 250 recorded species, amphibians, and endemic flora throughout the reserve.

River safaris by motorboat and kayak, and guided walks through primary and secondary forests, explore wetlands, mangrove ecosystems, and visit local communities.

A journey of learning, forgiveness and reconciliation inspired by the wildest biodiversity of Colombia.
